Redefine Brilliance To Connect With The World

Brilliance is not elite, not niche, and it isn’t a unique experience to be measured, though society will try. Brilliance must be observed. Being in community with friends and strangers has shown me this. Believe me when I say that experiencing brilliance secondhand from someone you’re sharing space with can cause tingles of awe and amazement to run up and down your spine. It must be experienced and interacted with the same way children experience and interact with a foreign object that piques their interest - poking and prodding and touching and exploring. I truly believe one’s brilliance is reflective of how they've learned to move through, view, and interpret the world based on their lived experiences.

How do humans add value? Pay attention and you’ll notice the folk who are blessed with the gift of assigning multiple interpretations to a countless number of circumstances and experiences, thus allowing for the possibility that any number of reasons could be the right one or the one to blame. There are people out there who have a stronger grasp of the physical capabilities of this world than I ever could, making them practical risk-takers. Some people are blessed with the ability to identify and interact with the complex social web that structures our landscape, allowing them to move through places and people on their terms and at their own will. Some folk are skilled with tapping into the emotions of others and becoming the truest of confidants to you and me.

Some may see the world in lights, sounds, images, or colors - vibrant, harsh, transparent, muted, loud. And there are people out there who are gifted with recognizing the brilliance in others. The thing you must know is that there is brilliance in all humanity. The secret is learning how to become curious enough in yourself to unlock your special brand of brilliance - a practice of self-love.

Selfishly, I want more people to unlock their brilliance. I’m in search of that tingly feeling running up and down my spine. I’m in search of the joy and pride that radiates off the person discovering their particular kind of brilliance for the first time. There's a power that's forged when stepping into the trenches and learning to let go and trust yourself enough to discover what makes you separate from others - while being connected all the same. It's messy but necessary. Witnessing humans connect with themselves, and as a consequence, the world, is a privileged moment of adoration and a look into the miraculous capabilities of us all.
